BENJAMIN SMITH (UK POLITICIAN)
'Sir Benjamin (Ben) Smith', PC (1879 – 1964) was Labour politician. A driver of one of London's first taxicabs, he was MP for Rotherhithe from 1923 until 1931 and from 1935 until 1946. He served as Minister of Food in the 1945 Labour government until his resignation in May 1946 to become Chairman of West Midlands Coal Board.
