Biography

Bert McCracken was born in Provo, Utah, USA and raised in a Mormon family during his youth. He also attended Timpanogos High School, before dropping out. Before joining The Used, he played the trumpet in a local band, called I'm With Stupid in his hometown. He has three younger sisters and one younger brother, Joseph.
Career

Their drummer at the time, Branden Steineckert, sent their music to John Feldmann whenever they finished a song. Feldmann was indifferent about the material until Branden sent him the song "A Box Full Of Sharp Objects", at which time he knew he wanted to work with The Used. He flew them out to his house to record their unofficial demo. After releasing their debut self titled album in 2002, the band toured with Goldfinger and toured with the Warped Tour and Ozzfest. The Used also played at the Rockstar Taste of Chaos.
On June 27, 2007, it was announced that McCracken had been advised to undergo surgery because of a node on his vocal chords. The Used subsequently canceled their shows on all upcoming dates during June and July, including the Vans Warped Tour.[1]

Relationship with My Chemical Romance

The Used and My Chemical Romance recorded a cover of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure", which was dedicated to dying friend, Sarah Meyler. All proceeds were given to a charity set up for tsunami victims. McCracken also provided backup vocals for My Chemical Romance on their album ''Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge'', for the song "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison."
Bert and Gerard Way became ferocious party buddies while on tour together. Rumor has it that their friendsip became sour while Gerard became sober in August 2004, though they had been known to be close friends for several months afterward, before the falling out occurred in June 2005. Also, the song "Pretty Handsome Awkward" is rumored to be about Gerard Way on the suspicion that the line of the song that says "do you feel okay" is from My Chemical Romance's song "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)." Kerrang! magazine has speculated that Bert and Quinn's comments relating to the song pointed to Gerard, though Bert has consistently denied this.
