As of the census of 2000, there were 2,973 people, 1,145 households, and 800 families residing in the town. The population density was 125.3/km² (324.7/mi²). There were 1,332 housing units at an average density of 56.1/km² (145.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 23.65% White, 75.61% Black, 0.07% Indian, 0.20%
