The 'bonefish' is the
type species of the
Albulidae, or
bonefishes. It is
amphidromous, living in the
brackish waters of estuaries. Although it is caught for sport its flesh is not considered particularly good to eat.

Worldwide in warm seas.

Description
Weight up to 10kg, Length to 104cm. Silvery in colour with dusky fins - the bases of the
pectoral fins are yellow. Except for large individuals, tends to be found in schools.
Diet
Known to feed on on
benthic worms,
crustaceans, and
molluscs.
Habitat
Found from 0-84m depth in coastal waters over muddy or sandy ocean floor.
Points of note
An important
game fish. This fish may improve its tolerance to oxygen-poor water by inhaling air into a lung-like airbladder.
