Bradford began educating post-secondary students in 1932, when it opened its doors as 'Bradford Junior College', a women's school. It was located in what was then known as Bradford, Massachusetts. It became coeducational Bradford College in 1971. Due to declining revenues and resulting losses from competition with larger regional institutions, the school was closed in 2000, leaving substantial debt.
Despite its founding as a post-secondary school in 1932, Bradford College traced its origins to 'Bradford Academy', which was founded in 1803, and used that date in its collegiate logo.
Known in its later years for providing a college experience that "Dared to be different".
It was ranked in the '90's as one of the most politically active campuses in the US.
