'Brandon' is a city in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, USA and is the largest suburb of Sioux Falls. The population was 5,693 at the 2000 census and 7,643 as of the Census Bureau's 2006 estimates.

Geography
Brandon is located at (43.591580, -96.580685), along the Big Sioux River.[1]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.8 km² (3.8 mi²), all land.
Brandon has been assigned the ZIP code 57005, and the FIPS place code 06840. Brandon is also the seat of Brandon Township of Minnehaha County.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,693 people, 1,909 households, and 1,592 families residing in the city. The population density was 580.0/km² (1,500.8/mi²). There were 1,976 housing units at an average density of 201.3/km² (520.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.23% White, 0.42% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.42% of the population.
There were 1,909 households out of which 53.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.0% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.6% were non-families. 13.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.26.
In the city the population was spread out with 34.5% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 17.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $58,421, and the median income for a family was $60,472. Males had a median income of $36,354 versus $25,302 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,869. About 2.5% of families and 2.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.0% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.
Marching Band
Brandon also has one of the best marching bands in the Midwest. The Brandon Valley Marching Lynx, during the past 22 years have won over 300 awards and trophies that have been earned in competitions in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. The band has also traveled extensively with performances in the Portland Rose Festival Parade in Portland, Oregon (1985), the Contest of Champions in Orlando, Florida (1987), the Bicentennial Anniversary of Washington, D.C. (1991), the Hollywood Christmas Parade in Hollywood, California (1995), Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City (1998), and the Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship and Parade in Phoenix, Arizona (2002).
