BRENNER, ITALY

'Brenner (Brennero)' (Italian: ''Brennero''; German: ''Brenner''; Ladin: ''Brenner''; Latin: ''Brennus''; many of the region's Italian languages/dialects use ''Brenner'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 110 km northeast of the city of Trento and about 60 km north of the city of Bolzano, on the border with Austria. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,075 and an area of 114.1 km².^[1]
The municipality of Brenner (Brennero) contains the ''frazioni'' (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Brennerbad (Terme di Brennero), Gossensaß (Colle Isarco), Pflersch (Fleres), and Pontigl (Ponticolo).
Brenner (Brennero) borders the following municipalities: Pfitsch (Val di Vizze), Ratschings (Racines), Sterzing (Vipiteno), Gries am Brenner (Austria), Gschnitz (Austria), Neustift im Stubaital (Austria), and Obernberg am Brenner (Austria).
The south end of the Brenner Pass is located in this municipality.
