BRIAN AKIN
'Brian Todd Akin' (born October 13, 1981 in Louisville, Kentucky) is a right-handed pitcher in Minor League Baseball who plays for the Las Vegas 51s in the Pacific Coast League.
He pitched four seasons at Davidson College. As a senior in 2004, he posted an 8-3 record and 3.30 ERA, earning All-Southern Conference second-team honors. He ranked fourth in the conference in ERA, strikeouts and lowest batting average against.
He was selected in the 14th round of the June 2004 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and assigned to the Rookie Class Ogden Raptors for the 2004 season. Pitched for the Columbus Catfish in 2005 and started 2006 with the Vero Beach Dodgers. He posted a 1.80 ERA with Vero Beach, striking out 48 batters in 35 innings and was selected as a Florida State League All-Star. He was promoted to the Double-A Jacksonville Suns for the second half of the season and posted a 2.95 ERA in 20 games for the Suns.
He played for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League following the season and returned to Jacksonville for the 2007 season.
