'Bristol Water' supplies 300 million litres of drinking water to over 1 million customers in a 1000 square mile area centred on Bristol, England. It is regulated under the Water Industry Act 1991
Approximately half the water is taken from the Mendip Hills, particularly Chew Valley Lake, Blagdon Lake and Cheddar Reservoir, with the other half is piped from the River Severn via the Sharpness Canal. There are 6,382 km of local water mains.
The company was formerly known as 'Bristol Waterworks Company', which was formed on 16 July 1846 by an Act of Parliament.
