BUFFYBOT

The 'Buffybot' is a character in the television series ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'', appearing in the last few episodes of season 5 and the first two of season 6. It is an identical robot replica of the real Buffy Summers, and as such, also played by Sarah Michelle Gellar. Though a perfect physical replica of Buffy, the Buffybot's mannerisms and speech patterns are usually stilted and imperfect by human standards; it also lacks understanding of nuance and tact, and can be disconcertingly blunt in conversation.

History

Season Five

Within the series, the Buffybot was created by Warren Mears at the request of Spike. Warren had already built a robot girlfriend for himself, and Spike now similarly wanted a robot Buffy to use as a sex toy as he was in love with the real Buffy, who had previously rejected him. Therefore, the Buffybot is initially programmed to be in love with Spike and do anything to please him.
At first, the group mistakes the Buffybot for the real Buffy. Both Xander and Anya spy the Buffybot having sex with Spike and suspect Buffy has gone mad after the death of her mother. Unfortunately, the minions of Glory also see the Buffybot protecting Spike in battle and suspected he was the Key. Both Buffys have to storm Glory's hideout in order to rescue Spike to ensure he does not reveal who the Key really is. During the resulting battle, the Buffybot is damaged and deactivated. Later, Buffy pretends to be the Buffybot to find out whether Spike betrayed the secret of the Key. When she finds out Spike would rather have died than tell Glory anything about the Key's true identity, she is touched and kisses him. At that point, Spike realizes that this is not the Buffybot. Buffy tells him the Bot is gone, because it wasn't real. But what he did for her and Dawn was real and she'll never forget it.
Later on in the fifth season, Xander and Anya find the deactivated Buffybot in the basement of The Magic Box. They tell Giles about it and the Gang activates the Bot again. She is used to make the first strike and distract Glory from the real Buffy. After some minutes, the Bot is decaptated by Glory, which makes Glory think Buffy is actually a robot. The real Buffy then reveals herself to Glory.
After Buffy's death

After Buffy's death, the Buffybot is used for patrolling to ensure the Underworld does not discover the Slayer's death - if demons think Buffy is alive, they are less likely to strike, out of fear. Its impersonation also ensures that Dawn, lacking a legal guardian in Sunnydale with both Buffy and their mother dead, can stay in town with the Gang and allows the group to live and operate out of the Summers home. Unfortunately, one vampire discovers the secret when fighting with it and brings a demon biker gang to Sunnydale to tear the place apart. The demons destroy the Buffybot by tearing her limb from limb. Before "dying", the Buffybot reveals to Dawn that the real Buffy has returned. Buffybot has not since been repaired.
