BUFORD, GEORGIA
'Buford' is a city in Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States. The population was 10,668 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 38.3 km² (14.8 mi²). 38.2 km² (14.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.34%) is water.
In a bid to host the lunch stop on the new Atlanta and Richmond Air Line Railway, they renamed the town after its president, Algernon S. Buford. They won the lucrative stopping point. Buford has grown rapidly over the last few years, primarily because of the Mall of Georgia.
As of the census of 2000, there were 10,668 people, 3,794 households, and 2,579 families residing in the city. The population density was 279.6/km² (724.4/mi²). There were 4,044 housing units at an average density of 106.0/km² (274.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 76.16% White, 13.33% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.82% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 7.56% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 17.27% of the population.
There were 3,794 households out of which 34.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, 14.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.29.
In the city the population was spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 33.7% from 25 to 44, 19.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 102.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $38,733, and the median income for a family was $43,100. Males had a median income of $29,458 versus $22,342 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,308. About 7.5% of families and 11.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.2% of those under age 18 and 17.2% of those age 65 or over.
