BURR WOOD

'Burr wood' is a type of wood in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. Burr wood is an uncommon type of wood, and is very hard to work in a lathe or with hand tools because its grain is misshapen and not straight. It is prized for its beauty by many, and its rarity also adds to its expense. It is commonly used in veneers (and rarely in solid form) for this reason.
