El encuentro fue organizado por la filial argentina del Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CFI). Entrevista: Alejandro Borgo, director del CFI-Argentina y de revista "Pensar" (http://www.pensar.org). Pregunta de Alejandro Agostinelli, (http://www.dios.com.ar): -¿Una sociedad laica, humanista, con mayoría de librepensadores, ¿es necesariamente una sociedad mejor? Mario Bunge: -Para nada. La religión puede ser usada para bien o para mal. Casi siempre ha sido usada como instrumento de control social. Pero los ateos no son necesariamente mejores que los creyentes. Yo siento mucha más afinidad por mi sobrina Lucía Gálvez (1) -afinidad en todo sentido- que por muchos compañeros escépticos, agnósticos o ateos. No tiene nada que ver. El ateísmo no basta. Porque el ateísmo es completamente negativo. No se construye una moral con negaciones. Se construye con afirmaciones, afirmaciones de solidaridad social, compasión, fraternidad, etc. Alejandro Borgo: Perdón, pero más que negación ¿no sería una descreencia el ateísmo? Si, es una descreencia. Pero es algo más. Es una afirmación de que no hay dioses. Como la afirmación que hizo el Buda... El Buda era un ateo practicante. El Buda dijo explícitamente: "no hay dioses, los dioses son creaciones humanas, fantasías humanas creadas por gente insegura. Gente que necesitaba o creía precisar una protección". Al mismo tiempo el Buda tenía una moral, aunque muy limitada... Acá tenemos a dos grandes expertos en Budismo, Fernando Tola y Carmen Dragonetti, expertos no solamente en budismo sino en filosofía oriental, que podrán corroborar lo que digo (2). El Buda era compasivo. Pero nunca dijo "ayuda al prójimo". Dijo "no hagas daño". Pero no dijo no dañes al prójimo. Por eso el Budismo -lo mismo que el epicureísmo- ha sido tildado de "utilitarismo negativo". (1) Historiadora, novelista.
