CITI-FM
'CITI' is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts classic rock at 92.1 MHz on the FM dial in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Formerly the world's most powerful FM station,
in 2003
CITI was granted a decrease in effective radiated power from 210,000 to 100,000 watts, and the relocated its transmitter 20 kilometres north of its former site.
The station was founded in 1962 as 'CKY-FM', and adopted its current callsign in 1978. In the early 1990s, the station was acquired by Rogers Communications, who converted CITI's sister station 'CKY-AM' to the FM band in 2004, and retained the CKY callsign on that station.
The very first song played on the new CITI-FM in 1978 was Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water.
Currently the morning show is hosted by Tom McGouran and Joe Aiello every weekday morning from 5:30-9 CT. Kathy Kennedy, or KK as she's commonly known, also co-hosts the show. Frequently, they have "Tom and Joe's World Tour", a radio station giveaway, sending winners all over the world to sporting or music events. Some trips include Cream reunited in New York, the Soccer World Cup in Germany, and the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.
An ethnic radio service in a number of East Indian languages is offered on a Subsidiary Communications Multiplex Operations channel.
