Food Prices Increase Worldwide
Rising food prices take a toll in African countries. Chan A sharp rise in food prices has now become of global concern, especially in Africa, Indonesia and Argentina. The surge has been attributed to high fuel costs and the increasing use of bio-fuels. STORY: The Ivory Coast is one of west Africa's poorest countries - the United Nations estimates that around half the population lives on less than two dollars a day. Increases in world food prices has had a huge impact here - most simply cannot afford to eat. In recent days violent protests have become a familiar sight as the
situation worsens and people become more desperate. [Margueritte Ahoule, Cleaner]:
"At least before if you had ten dollars per week you could do something with it. But now we can't, with ten dollars you can't even feed your family for two days. It's impossible." Tax has been lowered on some food imports and police have clamped down on
racketeering which has helped to drive up prices. But still there's anger that what was a prosperous nation has slipped into economic uncertainty. [Clarisse Mango, Road-Side Trader]: "I've been doing a little commerce for six months now, selling doughnuts. I was buying a sack of flour for 30 dollars, now in less than two months a sack now costs 40 dollars." In Senegal, where the president recently cut the number of ministers in his
cabinet to save money, the high cost of living is taking its toll. [Oulimata Faye, Dakar Resident]:
"The rice is expensive, the oil is expensive, and the government doesn't do anything. We are very tired, we don't have work, our children can't find work anywhere. We try to have something to eat every day and we can't
find anything. We are hungry and thirsty." Governments in other nations like Indonesia, Peru and Argentina are also facing a similar crisis. Unless oil prices begin to drop, the economic shortfall will continue to push food prices higher and higher.
FRENSWOOD ACADEMY (season2) CH. 12 (A Jonas Story)
***********STORY IN DESCRIPTION BOX*********** One week back in Frenswood and Bridget was still feeling the sting of the rumour mill. "I feel like a freak everywhere I go now" she said, sprawled on the living room couch in the dorm with Joe. They were both feeling tired after the four hour practice they'd just had. "don't let it bother you so much, they're just trying to feel better about themselves." he said flipping through the channels on the T.V Bridget watched him do so, amazed "how do you even have the energy to lift your hands right now?" "I only have one class to dance in B, you have three a day" he said without taking his eyes off the T.V set where an episode of pop world was playing. Some minutes later a commercial came on Joe came back from his vegetative state "here" he said, patting his lap "gimme your feet." "uh Joe, you need to learn how to phrase things better. You sound like an axe murderer or petefile with a foot fetish or-" "just give me your feet before I decide not to be nice" Bridget shut up and put her feet in his lap as was requested. Three minutes later, she was very glad she'd done so. "Joe, were you like a masseuses in a previous life or something?" "actually, funny you should mention-" A loud drawn out "Eww" drowned out the rest of his sentence Alexandria stood at the living room entry way, her face contorted with disgust "hey, when did you get here?" Bridget asked her "long enough to see this flirt fest, oh joy unbound" said Alexandria, still wearing the same disgusted look and slowly backing out of the room "I cant believe your touching her dancer's feet. Man that's just...nasty. Can you put up a sign or something next time you feel the need to do that so we can avoid having innocent people walk into the room expecting to watch some T.V and ending up losing their dinner. Thank You" Bridget and Joe laughed as Alexandria walked into her room. Sure she'd only been joking, but still some of her words rang true. They'd been casually flirting all night. At first Brdiget had thought it was because of the routine. The choreography in their argentine tango was full of close touches and it was hard not to feel, shall we say lustful, during the dance. But Joe's flirty behaviour followed them straight from the dance floor to the girl's dorm where they'd decided to hang out afterwards. But it wasn't like it bothered her at all. Actually she encouraged it. The more he flirted, the easier it would be to get back into the place their relationship had once been at. "wait a minute, late and live is on now?" Joe asked, springing up from the couch "yeah" Bridget said slowly, wondering what the big deal was "great, curfews in 10 minutes then. Sorry but I gotta go" and he really did sound sorry to be leaving "I'll see you tomorrow night. don't you dare be late" Bridget said quickly before he was out of earshot Joe waved a good bye over his shoulder at her On his way to the front door he spotted Alexandria digging in some cabinets in the kitchen and paused to say a quick good bye. "hey Alexandria" he said Her head remerged from the cabinet "hey! Your done molesting Bridget's feet then?" "yeah, I'm going home now. Curfews in like 10 minutes. But I just wanted to know if after hanging out with Nick tonight, you kindly returned him to the safety of his dorm or if I'll need to go pick him up from a jail cell somewhere" he joked "well you'll need to pay me back cause' I posted bail to get him out already but right now I suspect he's sleeping away all the booze he drank" she joked right back Joe smiled "aw thanks Alexandria, you're the best" "I know" she said with a perfectly straight face though she was still joking "so how was the movie?" "it was pretty good" she hesitated to say Joe heard the falter in her voice and frowned "did Nick do something to upset you? I'll kill him if he did" Alexandria was tempted to say that he'd been rude to her but that wasn't the case. Nick had been very polite all evening and that's what bothered her so much. This night marked the first night she'd hung out with him since she blew up at him and he'd been nothing but a gentleman. She didn't want to admit it, but a part of her had hoped he'd at least try to talk to her about the possibility of a 'them' again. But what minimal conversation they shared between each other was about everything else but them. "he was very nice Joe but thank you for the offer to kill him for me" "hey it's what I do, I'll talk to you later then Lex" Joe said starting to walk towards the front door again. "yeah, bye!" Alexandria called after him. Then she ran for her room, not feeling up for staying up talking to Bridget all night about the dynamics of her relationship with Joe. Let Haley deal with Bridget tonight. Alexandria was having too much trouble trying to figure out her own relationship with one of the Jonas brothers to help anyone else with a Jonas related problem.
