CABRILLO COLLEGE


'Cabrillo College', named after the explorer Juan Cabrillo, is a community college in Aptos, California. It is one of 109 public community colleges in the state of California. The college opened in 1959. In addition to its main campus, it includes the Watsonville Center which serves approximately 2,300 students, and the Scotts Valley Center opened for the Spring semester of 2007. Cabrillo College has an average enrollment of approximately 13,000 students.

Classes are offered at several locations including the main campus in Aptos at 6500 Soquel Drive, the Cabrillo College Watsonville Center, located at 318 Union Street in downtown Watsonville, the Cabrillo College Scotts Valley Center, located at 104 Whispering Pines Drive in Scotts Valley, and at several locations in downtown Santa Cruz and in the San Lorenzo Valley.
Facility planning and major construction is under way on campus for a new Student Services Complex, Arts Education facilities, new parking structure, and a Health Care Education Center at the Aptos Campus. The main quad in Aptos features a statue in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Academics


Cabrillo focuses on student-centered learning and has a tradition of collegial, shared governance. The college transfers many of its students to three nearby universities – the University of California at Santa Cruz, San Jose State University in the heart of Silicon Valley, and California State University at Monterey Bay. Cabrillo offers hundreds of courses leading to four-year degrees in many majors. The majority of all courses in the Cabrillo curriculum transfer to the University of California or the California State University systems.
Cabrillo’s career education is closely connected to the nearby Silicon Valley business environment as well as that of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Cabrillo College offers a variety of programs that lead to Skills Certificates, Certificates of Proficiency, and A.S. Degrees. In addition, Cabrillo College offers basic skills courses and courses for business, professional and personal development. A variety of not-for-credit classes are available on a fee basis through the Career Education and Economic Development Department.
Cabrillo College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
