CAMPAIGN FOR INNOCENT VICTIMS IN CONFLICT
The 'Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict' (CIVIC) is a small aid organization working in Iraq and Afghanistan to help victims of conflict. Marla Ruzicka, the founder of the organization, and Faiz Ali Salim, the organization's Iraq country director, were killed by a car bomb explosion on April 16, 2005 in Iraq.
CIVIC works to document an accurate accounting of civilian damage and push for assistance from the US government for those harmed. In 2003, CIVIC organized 150 surveyors in Iraq to interview victims for detailed information about deaths, injuries, and property loss in an effort at that time avouched by the ''Guardian'' as the "most accurate survey" being conducted. The previous year, the group finished a similar survey in Afghanistan.
