CANTERBURY WIZARDS

The 'Canterbury Wizards' is a New Zealand first class cricket team based in Canterbury, New Zealand. It is one of six teams that make up New Zealand Cricket.
It has been the most successful domestic team in New Zealand history and have produced many fine New Zealand international cricketers including Sir Richard Hadlee,Stephen Fleming, Chris Cairns and Shane Bond to name a mere few . They compete in the State Championship first class competition, the State Shield domestic one day competition and the State Twenty20 competition. They are the winners of the 2006 State Shield and State Twenty20 Cup. Canterbury usually play their home matches at Hagley Oval or Queen Elizabeth II Park in Christchurch, they formerly played at Jade Stadium.The side is currently coached by South African, David Owen Nosworthy.
Amongst the present players representing the New Zealand cricket team from Canterbury are Peter Fulton, Brendon McCullum, Shane Bond , Nathan Astle and Michael Papps . Chris Harris, Craig McMillan and Paul Wiseman have all featured for New Zealand in the past. Chris Cairns was also a Canterbury favourite, but finished his career for Canterbury in the 2006 State Shield final and played his last game for New Zealand in the Twenty20 international against the West Indies. Former stalwart Gary Stead also retired after the 2005-06 season.
