CAPRICA
'Caprica' is a fictional planet featured in both the original and re-imagined ''Battlestar Galactica'' science fiction television series.
Caprica is devastated in the opening storyline for both the original series and the re-imagined series in a sneak attack by the Cylons. Caprica is portrayed as an Earth-like planet in the re-imagined series, and is the only colony to be seen thus far in the series.
Caprica is established in the original series as belonging to the group of "inner planets".
Caprica contains 'Caprica City' and the city of 'Umbra' amongst other locales.
The episodes of the re-imagined series depict what happens to the planet and some of the human survivors who remained on Caprica in the aftermath of the attack. Over time, Caprica's lush green colour slowly fades to a dull brown as fallout of the Cylon nuclear attacks begin to destroy the environment. As viewed from the surface, Caprica's blue sky turns to a hazy orange. The human survivors are faced with the threat of both radiation poisoning and Cylon attempts to occupy the planet. The Cylons eventually abandon Caprica, however, in accordance with a shift in their ultimate goals.
The capital of Caprica and the Twelve Colonies of Kobol is Caprica City. Another city on Caprica is 'Delphi', which contains the 'Museum of the Colonies'.
Caprica was the leading world of the Twelve Colonies, and it is the center of culture, science and technology, and government.
However, Caprica's prominence and great wealth often made it unpopular with some of the poorer and less-developed colonies; they often viewed Capricans as being snobby and elitist.
At the end of the second season of the re-imagined series, the fleet of human refugees, under escort of ''Galactica'', discover a new world to inhabit and dub it "New Caprica".
