Carson Grade school (now Carson Elementary) children were first to donate, in the amount of $2.16, to The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), in 1946. The fund was created to aid children left at risk by World War II. Today, UNICEF is helping kids in 157 countries and has spent more than $2 billion on programs.
