CAVIA, INC.
'cavia' is a Japanese video game developer. The company name is apparently an acronym for 'C'omputer 'A'musement 'Vi'su'a'lizer, although the company web site also claims it refers to caviar.[1]
The company was founded on March 1 2000 and has its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Its shareholders include Amuse Capital, Tokuma Shoten, Tohokushinsha Film Corporation, Nippon Television Network Corporation, Tokyo FM Broadcasting, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Hayao Nakayama.
Cavia usually develops games for already existing franchises, like ''Naruto'', ''Dragonball Z'', ''One Piece'' or ''Ghost in the Shell'' for various publishers. The company also developed its own franchise with ''Drakengard'' and ''Drakengard 2'', which where published by Square Enix. AQ Interactive became cavia's main publisher in 2005. They are also responsible for the game Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance for the PlayStation 2.
Cavia are currently developing the Xbox 360 action role-playing game, ''Cry On'', in collaboration with Mistwalker.[2] .
