![]() | Afro-Centric, WTF?! READ!!! Sorry if i seem like I'm preeching a bit this story just really got on my tits. Also I am really concious that this is not my own nation that I'm talking about. If I get any facts wrong then please correct me. Also the fact that this will seem like a story that has been and gone for all my canada people viewers, so sorry bout that too. Links to storys:- http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20080130/Black_schools_080130/20080130/ http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=272389 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7217212.stm Also a couple more quotes from the comments on the CTV website that i liked:- This is backwards, and quite suprising. But here's a litte reference: "Brown v. Board of Education, 1954 "On May 17, 1954, the United States Supreme Court handed down its decision regarding the case called Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, in which the plaintiffs charged that the education of black children in separate public schools from their white counterparts was unconstitutional. The opinion of the Court stated that the "segregation of white and colored children in public schools has a detrimental effect upon the colored children." I find it interesting that were looking to take a leap backwards and seperate kids based upon their race. Call it what you will, but this is what is happening. If back in 1954 they could figure out in Kansas it was a terrible practice, then why in 2008 is the Toronto School board even giving notion to such a terrible idea? Their intentions may be good but the idea is horrible. If it's all about keeping black students in school, then they need to look for a better way." - B. Gray "As a Canadian of African origin and father, who went through the Ontario school system, I found this idea of separate school for blacks the most ridiculous I have heard of for a long time. What is with this notion of creating a separate school for blacks only; What is that telling us about blacks? We need to educate people so that they can thrive within the Ontario and Canadian context not to teach them from obscurely concocted heritage that does not exist in reality given that a Jamaican and Kenyans have little in common beside their skin color. Therefore, given that blacks do not have all the same culture, it is demeaning to think otherwise. Next, in all groups there are those who excel and those who do not what and we all know. Would that mean that in Ontario we should create a special school for every ethnic group or, is it that people are implying that there is something special about blacks. Please is there any sensed person left in that board to stop the ridiculous!" - Ahmed Why can't we just be ' CANADIANS '? - Dennis L. ![]() | The Design of Table-Centric Interactive Spaces: Video Figure This is intended as a video figure for my PhD thesis in the DGP at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. Partial abstract: Direct-touch tabletops offer compelling uses as direct, multi-touch, multi-user displays for face to face collaborative work. As task complexity and group size increase, the addition to the tabletop of multiple, vertical displays allows for more information content, while reducing the need to multiplex the display. We dub such systems table centric interactive spaces. Another version of this video, with a musical track, appears already on YouTube. At the time of this writing, the video could also be downloaded from: http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/~dwigdor/nb/videos/wigdor_cscw_2006.wmv |
