CEPHISODOTUS THE ELDER
SRoman copy of the ''Eirene'' (Glyptothek, Munich)
'Cephisodotus' or 'Kephisodotos' (flourished about 400 BC - c. 360 BC), father of Praxiteles and grandfather of Cephisodotus the Younger.
A noted work of his was ''Eirene (Peace) bearing the infant Ploutos (Wealth)'' of which a Roman copy exists at the Glyptothek, Munich (''illustration, right''). .
Cephisodotus also made, like his son, a figure of Hermes carrying the child Dionysus, unless indeed ancient critics have made two works of one. He made certain statues for the city of Megalopolis, founded around 370 BC.
