History

Until the 19th century the town was known as ''Cernusco Asinario'', from the tomb of the Roman functionary ''Caius Asinius'' (died 45 BC) found in its territory. During the Lombard domination the area was a possession of the bishops of Monza; later it was acquired by the ''Pieve'' of Gorgonzola. In the 13th century it became a fief of the Torriani and, after the former's defeat, of the Visconti.
