Name

The letter 'V' is the subject of many theories, but none of them are confirmed as to what the letter stands for. The leading theory points to V for victory. Another theory pits the V as a random end alphabet popular in Asia such as XYZ. Another possible theory is V as in video.
Channel V is also very symbolic, as since it was created from the breakup of MTV Asia, temporary the channel theme was renamed as "'The Next Generation of Music'" display the STAR TV logo at the time at least three weeks ago at that time. The logo seems to be generated from break up of M = |V| = [V].

Channel [V] Philippines

The Channel [V] in the Philippines was the former UHF Channel of the GMA Network- Citynet TV 27. The fate of Channel [V] Philippines has been murky since the announcement of the acquisition of a controlling stake in GMA Networks by telecom giant PLDT was made. While GMA operated Channel [V] Philippines, the PLDT company Nation Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) runs rival music video network MTV Philippines. This in turn is a joint venture between MTV Asia and NBC involving a 24-hour terrestrial broadcast of MTV Asia over UHF Channel 41 (and piped to Philippine cable networks) and the development of more Philippine-oriented programming. Channel [V] Philippines has officially shut down broadcasting as of July 25, 2001. Channel [V] still maintains a presence on pay-TV Philippine cable networks as Channel [V] International.
Before Channel [V] Philippines came in, between 1995, Channel [V] International ''(a mix of international, Indian and Mandarin music video before but immediately was change to Channel V Chinese seen in AsiaSat 1 (Now AsiaSat 3S), while Channel V International (India and Western Music Video) separately and beaming feeds in AsiaSat 2 (This Satellite used as back-up signal until now (along with STAR TV Indian Channels) and AsiaSat 3S.)'' was shown on UHF Channel 23 as a 24-hour music channel'' (Originally It was MTV Asia Channel first Philippine music channel. licensed to Ermita Electronics Corp. - the country's first UHF TV station fully devoted to rebroadcasting a foreign satellite channel. Before under in partnership and produced with STAR TV but it was canceled due to conflict of interest both parties in 1995)''The channel went on air until the middle of October 1996. It suddenly signed off to Channel 23 then replaced by Studio 23 which is handled by the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. When Citynet UHF Channel 27 (handled by GMA Network) went into broadcast, some Channel [V] shows is being shown as a replay. Channel [V] Asian Top 20, and Billboard U.S. Countdown are one of those shows. ''As of now, they featured in [V] fourm with the subject: 'Channel [V] Philippines Soon?'.''
