CHARLES OATLEY
'Sir Charles Oatley' (1904–1996), Professor of Electrical Engineering, University of Cambridge, 1960–1971, and developer of one of the first commercial scanning electron microscopes.
Attended the Bedford Modern School and then St. John's College, Cambridge.
He was elected to the Royal Society in 1969 and knighted in 1974. He was also a founder member of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
