CHELEY COLORADO CAMPS

'Cheley Colorado Camps' is a summer camp owned by Don and Carole Cheley at 3 locations in Colorado, United States. The main camp lies 75 miles (120 km) northwest of Denver on the 750 acre (3 km²) Land O' Peaks Ranch south of Estes Park, Colorado. The "Trails End Ranches" for boys and girls are located near Glen Haven, Colorado. The camp season begins in mid-June, with the first four-week session ending in mid-July and the second in August.
The camp enrolls children ages 8 to 17, and provides age-appropriate outdoor activities that campers select for themselves each day. Cheley's feature activities are hiking, horseback riding, and backpacking, all of which make extensive use of the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park trails and sites. Other activities include outcamping, sports, crafts, rock climbing, mountain biking, white-water rafting, riflery, and archery.
The camp was founded in 1921 by Frank Cheley, and has been family-owned and operated ever since. Its mission, written by Frank, is "To inculcate in boys and girls that spirit of honesty, purity, unselfishness, love, alertness, determination, and courage which is the foundation for all that is big and fine in American life and character, and more than this, the Summer Camp aims to help boys and girls cultivate the ability to act spontaneously in the right." The camp has a high camper-retention rate, with many campers returning for as many as eight or nine summers.
Cheley employs roughly 210 counselors and staff each summer. The camp calls it "the hardest job you'll ever love," and sees the yearly return of many staff members each summer.
As one of the campers atthis wonderful camp I can personly say that the cheley family has done a great job of making this camp fun without cartoons and AIM. All the campers may not get along but we have hsvr so much going on we don't even think bouthate. Were too busy having the the times of our life doing whatever activity interests us
