The 'Chenoweth Massacre' was the last major Native American raid in present day Jefferson County, Kentucky (Louisville Metro). On July 17 1789, Captain Richard Chenoweth, builder of Fort Nelson, and his family were stationed northeast of present day Middletown, Kentucky when a large band of Native Americans attacked, killing three Chenoweth children and two of their guards.
The Chenoweth Station and the trails leading to it was a favorite target of the Native Americans because it was isolated from the nearest settlements of Linn Station and the Falls of the Ohio.
