CHILTON LANE
'Chilton Lane' is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated a short distance to the south-east of Ferryhill, and immediately to the south of Ferryhill Station. Nearby are Great Chilton, East Chilton, Chilton Grange and Little Chilton.
Chilton Lane was formerly known as Chilton Buildings, and seems to date from circa 1830, as mining homes for a new pit shaft. Chilton Buildings was first mapped circa 1840. The establishment, in the 1870s, of Chilton Colliery boosted the growth of the whole area. "Chilton Buildings" last appeared on a map in 1954, but by the mid 1960s the name had vanished.
