The Chisago Lakes area is five historical communities united by a strong school district with a tradition of excellence. Each community offers both a unique history and a contemporary charm all its own. In 1969 the district was formed through the merger of two school districts: the Lindstrom-Center City-Shafer school district and the Chisago City school district. The Lindstrom junior high and high school building became the new high school facility, and the Chisago City junior high and high school became the new Chisago Lakes junior high school. The old Shafer school continued to be used for first-grade classes as it was when it was part of the Lindstrom-Center City school district.
The 165 square-mile district is home to nearly 3,600 Pre-K through 12 students and their families. There are three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school (Chisago Lakes High School). The district is proud of its tradition of excellence in academics, fine arts, community education and extracurricular activities.
All of our schools also offer a full range of services for students with special needs with access to highly qualified specialists through the St. Croix River Education District (SCRED). This collaborative allows a smaller district to offer high-level services to special learners.
Today, the Chisago Lakes area is a vibrant corridor to year-round recreation with a charming family atmosphere. Just 35 miles from the bustling cities of Minneapolis, Minnesota & St. Paul Minnesota, the Chisago Lakes area is the growing home to people seeking a great place to live, work, play and get involved in the community and schools.
