Churubusco High
Churubusco High School (Smith-Green Community Schools) is just another Indiana school. Basically like most small schools, it is not a very diverse school, nothing big happens very often. Some people either like it, others say how bad it is, but it could be a much worse.
Athletics
The 'football' program is now in Division 1-A (as moved down from previously being in Division 2-A). The team has been getting much, much better over the past couple years. The team used to be a sub-.500 team until as of late. In 2005, the Eagles rebounded with a Sectional Runner-Up to the 2nd best team in the state, Lewis Cass High School. The 2005 team broke many records that year, almost redefining Churubusco Football. In 2006, the team lost in the Sectional to Rochester, but had a record of over .500. The Eagles look to soar in the upcoming season. The football team is coached by 'Mr. Leeland Etzler', with assistants including Zack Dock, Nate Wright, Todd Lortie, John Shmidt, and Troy Gaff.
The 'basketball' remains 2-A, however. The basketball program is undergoing some "difficulties" as of late, struggling to win. Some say it is coaching. Some say it is a lack of commitment. Most agree its large amounts of both. The basketball team is coached by 'Jamie Perlich', assistants include: Coach Gudeman, Coach Herendeen, Coach Snyder, and Coach Hyndman. The Eagles are working hard to get back on track this season.
'Baseball' is a different story, as of late, the program has been in a successful streak. In the 2007 season, the Eagles were Indiana Baseball Regional Champions. They look to keep succeeding in baseball for years to come. The team is coached by 'Mark Grove'. Assistants being Austin Couch, Dave Maxton, Matt Turner, and Terry McManama.
The 'girls basketball' team is in what is considered a "rebuilding" stage, basically the same as the boys basketball team is, except there is only one difference, the Girls basketball as of June does not have a coach, and the Athletic director would be working on finding one, except, rumor has it that the Athletic Director has been removed. Much of this is uncertainty, and will be certified as soon as the information is clear.
The Lady Eagles 'softball' team had a pleasently successful season in 2007, unfortunately losing in the sectional, but most thought were much better and suffered an unfortunate loss. The team is looking to be even more successful in 2008.
The Lady Eagle 'volleyball' team is doing well. With a successful season in '07, they look to better themselves and have a great season this coming fall. The Lady Eagles are coached by 'Coach Bankson', Coach Holloway, and Miss Coch Brown
'Track and Field' had a down year in 2007, but is growing with the underclassemen looking to achieve much in the upcoming seasons as upperclassmen. The Track team is coached by 'Zack Dock.'
'Boys and girls tennis' is growing as well, expecting to get much better in this fall/spring. [Boys tennis takes place during the fall season, girls taking place in the spring.]
'The Golf' team was unfortunately under the radar as of late, but is expected to do well in the upcoming season. The Eagles are coached by 'Mark Cheshier'.

Churubusco High School for the most part is a great school. No major arrests or crimes have occurred, keeping the parents of the students to feel their kids are safe.
'Busco has recently added an Agricultural Program that has caused much debate. The insertion of the program forced a few teachers to be let go. Ironically, under 70 students signed up for the program, which caused the debate. This caused students to sign petitions to keep the teachers and get rid of the Ag. Program. It was said the teachers being cut were English teachers, which would force more than 30 students into each English class. In reaction (aside from the petition) students posted flyers on the walls of the school reading "I Love Illiteracy" to mock the drop of the English teachers.
