'Cianjur' is a city in the
West Java province of
Indonesia, the capital of
Cianjur Regency. Cianjur is located in the middle of the main road between
Jakarta (120 km in the northwest) and
Bandung (60 km to the east). The population is about 100,000 and because of its location that some of residents commute to work either in Bandung or in Jakarta.
Cianjur was found in 1677, with the first head of the city was
R.A.A. Wiratanukusumah I, entitled Dalem Cikundul, as the descendant from the old Sundanese kingdom of
Pajajaran.
The main production is agricultural products, especially
rice, and it has been known as the major reserved rice production area for the heavily populated
Java island.
