CITY OF DERRY R.F.C

(Redirected from City of Derry Rugby Club)

'The City of Derry Rugby Club' is a rugby union club, formed in 1881 in Derry currently playing rugby union in the AIB Division Three. The club's purpose built facility at Judges Road, shares this name and is situated just outside Strathfoyle amidst a beautiful countryside setting. The club is Derry's premier Rugby club and is a popular choice of club for players from Derry. In December 2001, the club was also involved in a controversial appeal, involving a £4,000 fine and the deduction of 8 points after fielding an ineligible player[1]. The scandalous affair concluded with the club being relegated from the AIB Division Two. The club has continued to struggle, but continues to cater for the needs of its youth. In March 2007 the club hosted a youth project that saw 13 different primary schools compete.[2]. Following last season's relegation battle, the club has appointed a new coach in Neil Stewart and he has signalled his intention to improve the club's fortunes and has introduced a number of new faces.[3]
