CLAREMONT SHOWGROUNDS

The 'Claremont Showgrounds' were built in 1905 in the Perth suburb of Claremont, (). The Showgrounds are home to the annual 'Perth Royal Show'.
Since 1927 the Claremont Speedway was also located here, until its relocation to the new Motorplex near Kwinana in 1999. The closure of the Speedway allowed the main showground arena to be redeveloped into a more open area, suitable for large music events such as the Big Day Out and other festivals.
In 1929 for the state of Western Australia's centenary - a pavillion was built, as well as a number of other features in the grounds.
Claremont Showgrounds is also serviced by a new island special events train station on the Perth to Fremantle line. It has direct connection with the showgrounds.
The older style station was located further east with platforms on either side of the line, and required negotiating road crossings.
