'Clarksville' is a city in Johnson County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 7,719 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Johnson County.

Clarksville is located at (35.464006, -93.477089).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 48.6 km² (18.8 mi²). 46.6 km² (18.0 mi²) of it is land and 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it (4.10%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 7,719 people, 2,960 households, and 1,918 families residing in the city. The population density was 165.8/km² (429.3/mi²). There were 3,240 housing units at an average density of 69.6/km² (180.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 87.60% White, 3.46% Black or African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 6.15% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 15.26% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,960 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 12.5% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $24,548, and the median income for a family was $30,758. Males had a median income of $22,052 versus $19,764 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,305. About 16.2% of families and 20.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.8% of those under age 18 and 13.4% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Clarksville is home to the University of the Ozarks, a private, liberal arts based university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.
Clarksville Public Schools is the city's public school district. Its mascot is a panther. The school colors are red and white. The public school system is broken up into five different categories: Primary (K-1), Elementary (2-4), Middle (5-6), Junior High (7-9), and High (10-12).
