'Cleverpath AION Business Rules Expert' (formerly Platinum AIONDS, Trinsic AIONDS, and originally Aion) is an expert system and Business rules engine created around 1986. By supplying "If Then" rules into the system, the system can efficiently match them against the data and make decisions.
To draw conclusions expert systems use inference.
AIONDS implements the 2 major methods of reasoning, forward- and backward chaining.
The software is nowadays a product of Computer Associates.
Aion was multi-platform from its initial implementation and continues to be deliverable to the PC, Unix, and the Mainframe computer's MVS. In addition it ties in seamlessly with a variety of databases including Oracle, SQL Server, and ODBC.
Aion has been used heavily in a variety of industries including Energy, Insurance, Military, Aviation, and Banking. At one point many flights were scheduled to their assigned gates by an Aion application written by Covia, LLC.
Colossus, a computer program, developed by Computer Sciences Corporation is the insurance industry’s leading expert system for assisting adjusters in the evaluation of bodily injury claims (aka "pain and suffering"). Colossus helps adjusters reduce variance in payouts on similar bodily injury claims through objective use of industry standard rules.
Kirk Wilson and Michael Parish are award winning Aion developers who have done much to advance the use of the tool within various industries.
