CLIFTON, CINCINNATI, OHIO

'Clifton' is a neighborhood in the north central part of Cincinnati in Ohio, United States. The area includes the Ludlow Avenue Shopping and Dining District. Clifton is situated around Clifton Avenue, north of Dixmyth Avenue, approximately three miles north of Downtown Cincinnati.
The Ludlow Avenue area or 'Gaslight District' (the business district of Clifton) contains many independent shops, restaurants and a movie theater, the Esquire, specializing in independent and foreign films. Side streets are lit using original gas lamps, hence the name "Gaslight District." There is a great diversity of retail outlets and dining and drinking establishments situated along Ludlow and intersecting streets.
The University of Cincinnati is located in Clifton Heights, University Heights, Avondale, and Corryville, neighborhoods that surround Clifton, although generally, when Cincinnatians refer to Clifton, they mean Clifton proper as well as its surrounding neighborhoods. The proximity of the University helps to contribute to the artistic and bohemian atmosphere of the neighborhood.
Clifton is populated by numerous races and is very unusual and diverse.
There are several fascinating historical buildings and homes in the neighborhood.
Clifton is situated just up the hill from Northside, Cincinnati.
