CLOGHERHEAD

'Clogherhead' () is a fishing village in County Louth, on the east coast of Ireland 12 km. from Drogheda. The picturesque harbour is called Port Oriel. There is an RNLI lifeboat stationed in the village. Clogherhead has one of the finest piers in Ireland. The pier at the moment is being re-established. It will be extended by 65 metres. It is expected to be completed in March 2007.

Clogherhead is a popular tourist destination. The village is also notable for its sandy beach which extends from near the lifeboat station and on to the Boyne estuary.
The village is soon to be boosted by the construction of a new factory for the manufacture of solar powered calculators and digital watches by the new indigenous Irish company ICM (Irish Calculator Manufacturers). This factory is expected to add 12 jobs initially, rising to 84, not including ancillary services. The factory is to be located adjacent to Strand Street and is the first industrial development in the town since the wafer factory closed following a fire in 1963.

Callystown National School has been in "official" existence since 1832. It has an interesting history. It now has over 260 pupils and has recently been extended.
