COLLEGIATE SCHOOL (RICHMOND, VIRGINIA)

'Collegiate School' is a preparatory school for boys and girls located in Richmond, Virginia. The student body of Collegiate comprises about 1,500 total students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. The Lower School and Upper School are coeducational and the Middle School is coordinated with boys and girls in separate classes.

History

Collegiate was founded in 1915 as the Collegiate School for Girls, a college preparatory school located in downtown Richmond. In addition to this campus in town, Collegiate opened the Collegiate Country Day School, off Mooreland and River Roads, in 1953. Collegiate's Town School and the Country Day School merged on Mooreland Road in 1960. Today Collegiate still remains on the Mooreland Road campus and has recently purchased over 155 acres in Goochland County. Collegiate had already developed 60 of these acres for athletic purposes. Collegiate's athletic teams have enjoyed considerable success, including a 4-time defending state champion football team, the girls soccer team (rated in the top 25 in 2006), a field hockey team, and a girls and boys lacrosse program that is consistently ranked among the best in the nation. In 2006, the Cougars lacrosse team won the state title, as well as the prep league title. Collegiate's lacrosse program has produced many outstanding players who have played on some of the top Lacrosse programs in the nation.

'Hershey Center for the Arts'- includes a 620-seat theater, art, music and drama studios and photography darkroom as well as soundproof music studios.
'Two Libraries' one for lower school students and the other is shared by Upper and Middle school students

'Seal Athletic Center' with dance studio, indoor gym space, weight-training room as well as a training coach
