UNITED STATES SENATE COMMITTEE ON ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES

(Redirected from Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs)
The 'United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources' has jurisdiction over matters related to energy and nuclear waste policy, territorial policy, native Hawaiian matters, and public lands.
Its roots go back to the 'Committee on Public Lands', created in 1816. This committee was renamed the 'Committee on Public Lands and Surveys' in 1921, and then, upon merger with the Committee on Indian Affairs, the 'Committee on Territorial and Insular Affairs', the 'Committee on Mines and Mining', and the 'Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation' in 1946, became the 'Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs'. In 1977, it became the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and Indian Affairs were removed from its jurisdiction into its own committee.
