CONCENTRATE
A 'concentrate' is a form of substance which has had the majority of its base component (in the case of a liquid: the solvent) removed. One benefit of producing a concentrate is that of a reduction in weight and volume for transportation as the concentrate can be re-constituted at the time of usage by the addition of the solvent.
Concentrated juice was developed during World War II to provide nourishment for the armed forces. The juice arrived in its concentrated state, that having the bulk removed by extracting its liquid. Being concentrated was lighter and smaller for transport and easier for storage. Once the juice was distributed for use the concentrate was introduced into the water which reconstituted the juice back to its full natural liquid strength.
Concentrate can also be the residue valuable metal from which most of the waste rock has been removed. The residue metal becomes the raw material for smelting.
