COOK AND ENJOY IT

'Cook and Enjoy It' is the English version of 'Kook en Geniet', the Afrikaans and original version of the cookbook, which became known as the definitive cookbook representing authentic South African food culture and heritage.
In 2001, South Africa's most famous cookbook was 50 years old. In 2005, over half a million Afrikaans copies had been sold. The recipe book was first published by Human & Rousseau in 1961. For the revised 1992 edition, some recipes were newly-tested and re-written in what was perceived to be an easy-to-follow style. Although a few recipes were edited and replaced, the intention was to retain the spirit and essence of Ina de Villiers's great South African classic.
Upon first publication, the team consisted of 3 people: Prof Dr Mattie Jooste, S.J.A. de Villiers and her husband, Japie de Villiers. Since then, friends and acquaintances of the group joined the team. In 1990, the publisher acquired the rights to production and marketing of the book, resulting in a completely revised edition with a new appearance. The new edition attempts to retain the character of the original book's recipes and basic cooking principles, having incorporated the use of modern kitchen appliances such as microwaves and food processors in many recipes.
