Facilities

The school, built in 1971, is aging quickly and is no longer capable of holding all of the students that occupy it every day due to mold related health issues and the new 6,000 home development of Waldrep Dairy. A new 36-classroom building is going to be opened during the 2007-2008 school year. This building will be followed by a new cafeteria building, another 36-classroom building, an office building, and the destruction of the original buildings (in 2010).

Programs

The school is also well known for its extensive Advanced Placement program. Having 20 available Advanced Placement courses available to the students, the school creates a positive influence for students admitting into college, usually producing valedictorians with well over 10 AP credits simply from courses taken at the school (ie. 12 credits excluding exams taken by the student independently of Cooper City High).
However, the Advanced Placement places arbitrary limitations on students. AP European History, for example, cannot be taken until twelfth grade. Some courses which may be common in other schools, such as AP Psychology, are, as of 2007, not offered.

Scandals

On May 26, 1993 two Cooper City High school girls were arrested on prostitution charges. [7]
On December 12, 2006 the president of the senior class, Ryan Shrouder, was arrested on two counts of a computer crime with intent to defraud. Shrouder allegedly illegally accessed Broward School District computers and gave himself and 19 classmates better grades. He was released from the Broward County Jail after posting $5,000 bond. [8]
In May 2007 a chlorine bomb was set off in an outdoor trashcan, upsetting faculty.[9]
Murder

Cooper City High School first appeared on the national stage with the 1993 murder of Bobby Kent by a group of current and previous students. The murder resulted in a best selling crime book, "Bully: A True Story of High School Revenge", and a 2001 film, "Bully".
The story was also covered during an A&E Television crime special.
