History

The base had been established in 1942 on property at the western edge of the community of Clementsport. Following the war, the post office gave this location the name "Cornwallis", after the military base. HMCS Cornwallis was reactivated in 1949 and it was renamed CFB Cornwallis in 1968.
The military base was closed in 1994 and converted to civlian use. At that time, the local development authority established 'Cornwallis Park' as the civilian name for the property; this name was adopted as the community name in 2000.

Current occupants

The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre's main administrative office is located in the former base commander's house.
A significant portion of the former military base's facilities (particularly housing, hospitality, meeting rooms and assembly halls) have been taken over by the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre.
Cornwallis Park also hosts over 1000 Royal Canadian Sea Cadets annually for training through CSTC HMCS ''Acadia''.
