COURAGEOUS-CLASS

The 'Courageous-class' Manticoran light cruiser is a starship type from the Honor Harrington books, used by the Royal Manticoran Navy.
The vessel displaces 88,000 tons and can accelerate at 617 gravities (500g was reported as 'full military power' in On Basilisk Station). It was one of the most numerous classes in the Royal Manticoran Navy as of the start ''On Basilisk Station'' but they were quickly becoming obsolete, being around eighty years old. On the small side of the light cruiser class, they originally packed quite a heavy missile broadside of 7 tubes but the lack of magazine space limited the number of salvos available. 2 30cm lasers, and 2 50cm grasers were also in each broadside. They were light on protective armor and defensive weaponry
Honor Harrington's second hyperspace-capable command was a refitted ''Courageous''-class ship, HMS ''Fearless'' (CL-56). This vessel had an experimental weapons combination of 7 energy torpedo generators and a light grav lance in each broadside replacing all but 1 missile tube and 1 30cm laser.
Captain Aivars Terekhov was noted in The Shadow of Saganami as having previously commanded HMS ''Defiant,'' which he was forced to surrender in the Battle of Hyacinth.
HMS ''Audacious'' and HMS ''Gallant'', which appeared in the same book, were also ''Courageous''-class. Note that by this point the class was around a hundred years old and was probably in commission only due to a shortage of more modern units. During the Manticore-Haven war, ''Courageous'' class ships generally fought as or equivalent to destroyers.
