Career

Leeds United

Farrell started his career with Leeds United. Farrell signed for Carlisle United on a months loan in 2002.[1]
Carlisle United

Following a successful loan spell at Carlisle United, Farrell signed for Carlisle United in a deal that could have risen to £50,000 depending on appearances.[2] In 2003, Farrell was placed on Carlisle United's transfer list as part of manager Paul Simpson's clear-out.[3] Farrell said he is prepared to wait patiently to earn a regular place in the first team, telling the club's website: "Karl and Magno have both been playing really well, so I can't really say much. I've only started one game this season in the LDV. I've got to keep working as hard as I can and make sure when my chance comes I take it."[4] Farrell was released by Carlisle United in 2005, along with teammates Kevin Henderson, Carlos Roca, Brian Shelley and Chris Beech.[5]
Exeter City

Farrell signed for Exeter City in 2005 on a one-year deal.[6] Soon after joining Exeter City, Farrell said he feels ''the Grecians'' have the belief and the right kind of players to get promoted, saying: "The players are confident, and we have a really good side here. It's very similar to the Carlisle United side of last year which I got promoted with."[7] Farrell was released by Exeter City in 2006.[8]
York City

Farrell joined York City after being released by Exeter City in 2006.[9] Farrell scored his first goal for York City in the teams 2-2 home draw with Southport on September 23 2006.[10]
York City manager Billy McEwan set Farrell a 15-goal target for 2006–07 season, saying "Craig tells me he's scored six goals and had six disallowed this season so he's getting in there. I'm looking for him to get 15 and still believe he can get that."[11] Farrell played through the last two months of the 2006–07 season with torn muscle fibres in his thigh.[12] Farrell was offered a new contract by York City at the end of the 2006–07 season on 16 May 2007.[13] Farrell won the Press Player of the Year award in May 2007, with manager Billy McEwan saying: "He's done very well and, although he will be the first to admit that he should have scored more than ten goals with the situations he's got into, he's contributed to a number of goals we have scored. His work ethic has been very good and he's done well for the team. He has proven he's a 110 per cent player and has come into a new set-up which isn't always easy. He will enjoy his break and he's deserved it because he's worked hard for the cause. I look forward to him trying to score more goals next season because he's got a tough act to follow."
