CRESCENT DRAGONWAGON
'Crescent Dragonwagon' (born as 'Ellen Zolotow', November 25 1952, New York City) is the author of more than 40 published children's books (including a Coretta Scott King Award-winner and a Reading Rainbow selection). She also has written two novels (one a New York Times Notable), several cookbooks (Passionate Vegetarian is a 2003 James Beard Award-winner), and one book of poetry.
She and her late husband, Ned Shank, owned Dairy Hollow House, a country inn and restaurant in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where she lived for more than 30 years. She later co-founded the non-profit Writer's Colony at Dairy Hollow. She now lives in southeastern Vermont, not far from the village of Saxtons River.
She is the daughter of two noted writers: Children's book writer and editor/publisher Charlotte Zolotow and the late Hollywood biographer Maurice Zolotow.
