'Crossett' is a city in Ashley County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 6,097 at the 2000 census.
Crossett is located at (33.124730, -91.963466).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.6 km² (6.0 mi²). 15.1 km² (5.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (2.83%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,097 people, 2,418 households, and 1,745 families residing in the city. The population density was 403.8/km² (1,045.2/mi²). There were 2,663 housing units at an average density of 176.4/km² (456.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 59.50% White, 39.02% Black or African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 1.10% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,418 households out of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 16.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% were non-families. 25.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the city the population was spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 87.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,442, and the median income for a family was $43,864. Males had a median income of $41,667 versus $22,206 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,288. About 13.7% of families and 16.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 29.1% of those under age 18 and 12.0% of those age 65 or over.
