Cryptologic Technician Rating Insignia

'Cryptologic technician' (CT) is a United States Navy enlisted rating or job specialty. CTs are responsible for a wide range of cryptology related functions, ranging from hacking and computer repair to administration within a cryptology setting. CTs control the flow of messages and information. Their work depends on their special career area.

Specialties



★ Administration (CTA) - Administrative and clerical duties that control access to classified material such as Special Security Officer or (DCS) Defense Courier Service.

★ Interpretive (CTI) - Radiotelephone communications and foreign language translation

★ Maintenance (CTM)- The installation, servicing and repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment

★ Collection (CTR) – Morse code communications and operation of radio direction finding equipment

★ Technical (CTT) - Communications by means other than Morse code and electronic countermeasures

★ Networks (CTN) - The newest of the CT ratings, CTNs plan and execute informational operations (IO) actions/counter-actions
Predominantly working on shore both overseas and within the United States, CTs have many opportunities for being deployed.

Rating Changes



★ On October 1, 2007 CTAs will be merged with Yeoman (YN), Legalman (LN), and Religious Programs Specialist (RP).

★ CTOs have been merged with Information Systems Technician (IT).

★ CTMs are slated to be disestablished in 2008, with certain skill sets converting to Electronic Technician (ET) and Information Systems Technician (IT) billets.
