CUBA CITY, WISCONSIN

'Cuba City' is a city in Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,156 at the 2000 census. The city is nicknamed "The City of Presidents" because of the presidential banners displayed along the city's Main Street.
Cuba City is in two different counties, Grant County and Laffayette County, most of it being in Grant County.
The current mayor of Cuba City is Bob Beinborn. [1]

History


The first structure in the community was erected in 1846. The name "Yuba City" was finally picked after a dispute about the name of the new village, but, after discovering another location had already been given that name, a new name, "Cuba City," was selected.

Cuba City is located at (42.605874, -90.430274).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
The community is located on State Highway 80.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there were 2,156 people, 861 households, and 569 families residing in the city. The population density was 770.8/km² (1,997.1/mi²). There were 900 housing units at an average density of 321.8/km² (833.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.49% White, 0.05% Native American, 0.23% Asian, and 0.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.09% of the population.
There were 861 households out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.1% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $38,750, and the median income for a family was $46,550. Males had a median income of $30,884 versus $21,359 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,375. About 5.9% of families and 8.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.8% of those under age 18 and 4.3% of those age 65 or over.
